Cold Justice by Katherine Howell
Cold Justice is the third book in the detective Ella Marconi series by Katherine Howell. As with the first two installments, Howell crafts a powerful and high-adrenaline tale of murder and intrigue, this one buried 20 years in the past. In 1990, the body of a teenage boy is found. Nearly 20 years later, detective Marconi, back after an on-the-job injury, is put in charge of the investigation. Weaved into the story is paramedic Georgie Riley, the girl who discovered the body all those years ago and who is now dealing with not only this haunting past but horrific incidents in the present as well. Add into the mix Georgie’s new partner Freya, who has a sad and dangerous secret, the victim’s family on the verge of breakdown again and a plethora of other well-rounded characters. The novel is slightly confusing at times-the point-ofview becomes jumbled and it’s hard to tell exactly whose story this is. The authenticity of the book (Howell is a past paramedic) is the real highlight. Although readers may guess the twist before it is actually revealed, Cold Justice is a worthwhile and captivating read for crime, action and mystery fans.
