Grimwade appointed new MWF director
Steve Grimwade has been appointed the new director for the Melbourne Writers’ Festival.
Grimwade, who is currently associate director, will take on the role following the 2009 festival, which will run from 24 August to 2 September. He replaces Rosemary Cameron who is leaving the position after having directed the festival since 2006.
‘I’m delighted to be following on from Rosemary, who I think has done an amazing job, and I look forward to continuing to improve the way in which the festival engages with writers and readers, with the industry and with the whole of Melbourne,’ Grimwade told WBN.
Speaking to the Age’s Jason Steger, Grimwade emphasised that the festival would be strengthening its ties with the book industry. ‘This year is a great year for industry involvement,’ he said. ‘We have the digital publishing program, a visiting international publishers program and I want to do everything I can to make sure that we help the industry and are part of them moving forward.’
Grimwade has directed the Emerging Writers’ Festival and was program manager for the Victorian Writers’ Centre. He also edited the literary journal Going Down Swinging and a new book Literary Melbourne: A Celebration of Writing and Ideas.
Grimwade officially takes up the new position on 1 November.
