ABR announces Favourite Australian Novel (FAN) poll
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009Australian Book Review (ABR) announced the Favourite Australian Novel (FAN) Poll this week.
The poll, which asks readers to vote for their favourite Australian novel of all time ‘is generating huge interest among our readers and the wider public,’ according to ABR editor Peter Rose. ‘We received one hundred votes in one day, even before the magazine was published, with responses generated through digital means, such as Facebook and via the website,’ Rose told WBN. ‘The response has been quite fantastic. We are already seeing some popular novels emerging and some we didn’t know about.’
ABR decided to do the poll after seeing the massive interest in ABC Classic FM’s Classic 100 Symphony Poll, which rekindled an interest in Australian symphony works and brought to light many that had been forgotten. Rose said he hoped the poll wouold ‘heighten interest in our fiction, especially the backlist’. Prizes on offer include the complete set of 99 ‘Popular Penguins’, the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, Deluxe Leather Bound Edition; and a three-year complimentary subscription to ABR.
