What’s Hot in the Media 30th November 2009

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Peter Timms’ new book In Search of Hobart is being well-received and widely read on both sides of Bass Strait. The book looks at Hobart’s convict history as well as the modern-day city and what it’s like to live there. The Lacuna, the story of a man caught between two worlds, is Barbara Kingsolver’s first novel in nine years. Reviewers have thus far looked quite favourably on it. Australian novelists Charlotte Wood and Alex Miller also made the Most Mentioned chart this week with Brothers and Sisters and Lovesong, respectively. And Ben Elton’s Meltdown has hit bookshop shelves in time for the busy Christmas period.

Most mentioned in the Media this week

1 In Search of Hobart, by Peter Timms
2 Lacuna, The by Barbara Kingsolver
3 Meltdown, by Ben Elton
4 Under the Dome, by Stephen King
5 Underbelly, by Andrew Rule

Bestsellers this week

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

High-profile male authors have taken over the charts this week with Matthew Reilly’s The Five Greatest Warriors coming in at number one in the Bestsellers, James Patterson’s I, Alex Cross at number two, Stephen King’s Under the Dome topping the Highest New Entries chart and Ben Elton’s Meltdown the ‘fastest mover’ this week. Did someone say early Christmas present-buying.

What’s Hot in the Media 23rd November 2009

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Shrinking the World: The 4000-Year Story of How Email Came to Rule Our Lives by John Freeman made the top of the Most Mentioned chart this week. William Dalrymple, award-winning author of City of Djinns, also made equal top with another book about India called Nine Lives: In Search of the Sacred in Modern India. Ray Martin continues to garner favourable mentions for his newly released autobiography Ray: Stories of My Life. This was also the case for Playlisted: Everything You Need to Know about Australian Music Right Now. Bryce Courtenay’s new book The Story of Danny Dunn didn’t get as much press this weekend as we’d expect from a high-profile author, but perhaps there’ll be more to read in the coming weeks.
