What’s Hot in the Media 6th October 2009

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

This week was a great one for local authors, among them Emily Maguire. Her new novel Smoke in the Room did very well on MX’s Most Mentioned chart. It follows the story of young people living in an apartment in Sydney. John Hirst, former reader in history at La Trobe University, has written The Shortest History of Europe, which begins with Greek and Roman learning and delivers us to our modern-day world. And in Andrew McGahan’s new novel, a witch, a virgin, an archangel, a duke and an orphan make up the characters in Wonders of a Godless World. Gerald Murnane’s Barley Patch also made the top five this week, as did Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol.

2 Smoke in the Room, by Emily Maguire
3 Wonders of a Godless World, by Andrew McGahan
